Beyond Reading Words: Growing Young Minds Through Stories

At Griha Shiksha, reading is more than recognising letters or pronouncing words correctly. It is an opportunity to nurture one’s curiosity, imagination, communication and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our integrated, theme-based approach brings stories to life through pictures, rhymes, creative activities and meaningful parent-child interactions. Children are encouraged to explore, express their thoughts and learn at their own pace.
Consider ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. As your child follows the caterpillar’s journey through different foods and its transformation from a caterpillar into a butterfly, a simple story becomes an exciting learning adventure. Count the fruits, identify colours, discuss healthy eating, sequence events and discover how caterpillars change. Ask questions, invite predictions and encourage your child to retell the story in their own words.
Each activity connects reading with language development, early mathematics, scientific curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Most importantly, shared reading strengthens the bond between parents and children, making learning a joyful experience rather than a task.
At Griha Shiksha, we believe that when children enjoy discovering stories, they begin to discover their own potential.
Read together. Explore together. Grow together.
How do you make reading an enjoyable part of your child’s daily routine, and what changes have you noticed in their curiosity, communication, or creativity? Share your experience in the comments!
